POOL/WATER SAFETY
As the majority of you will be aware that we have been in the news and on social media regards the chlorine incident on 7th January 2025, and also a recent social media post showing rashes on body parts alleging it was a reaction to attending the pools in the spa.
Following the amount of pure gossip, mistruths and the pure lies that have been told about us, I think it’s time to share some facts and our side of the story.
Regards the January 7th 2025 Chlorine Incident…
We are still waiting for the authorities to complete their investigation, however I can share the findings of our internal investigation conducted by Andy Ebbern from Aqua Leisure Safety assisted by Greyfox Swimming Pools..
The main points:
· The hydrotherapy pool was closed, and no water was present in the pool so applying to much chlorine is discounted
· After the maintenance on the Hydro therapy was complete, a valve to allow water back in the pool was opened and at this point chlorine was released into the air
· Investigation had found that there had been a build-up of dry chlorine that had built up in a dead leg as the valve was closed.
· The investigation found that one or two staff members out of our large operations team had diverted away from their signed and documented training and had been putting chlorine into the wrong part of the pipework which caused the chlorine build up in the dead leg.
· External Contractors did A thorough strength test was done on our systems, and they found there was no concerns and it was purely down to human error and the system is safe.
We do still await the await the results of the relevant local authority to complete their investigation. However, it is worth saying that Andy Ebben and Grayfox swimming pools have over 120 years’ experience between them on pool safety so I have full confidence in their findings.
THE SOCIAL MEDIA POST THAT WENT VIRAL..
Since the chlorine incident we do unfortunately receive approx. 50 false claims a month of people trying it on to get something for free. Generally they allege ” I am poorly due to much chlorine in the pools like the January 7th Incident”— Without actually realising the there was no water in the concerned pool on 7th January!
I must admit our customer service team did receive the images from a spa guest showing pictures of body parts with rashes on claiming it was a reaction to the pool water , but maybe mistakenly, after looking at the pictures they thought it was another false claim as the arms seems to look like they were from different people.
To be clear we go way over and above every single day and night over the recommended cleaning procedures at a great financial cost to ensure the pools are safe for use.
Andy Ebben and Grayfox have again helped us with our investigation and see no cause for any concern.
On the day of the spa guest’s attendance:
· We had over 500 people using the pools from 6am-10pm that day with no further complaints of any issues on the day. Andy Ebben and Grayfox feedback was if there was any bacteria in the pool on that day that would cause a rash then we would have been inundated with complaints
· The water was checked and tested every 2 hours to ensure levels was in the recommended level
· The pools were deep cleaned as procedure the night before
We also have an external company that come and take water samples away for lab testing.
I have spoken to the spa guest and apologised for the customer team not coming back to her. I did explain their rational. We are awaiting the medical evidence to assist with our investigation.
Its worth saying that all the staff are all qualified and their competency is tested regularly. All pool test results are also checked daily by an independent contractor.
NEW CLASS TIMETABLE…
An awesome new timetable is all set to now start on Monday 12th May… The full programme of classes will be released early next week.
ONE OR TWO BITS
We, as with all businesses, face new financial challenges with the increase of the employers national insurance rise and also the loss of the Business Rates Relieve .. I have moved away from the temptation to increase prices to cover this however we must make one or two small adjustments to ensure we can continue with our ever-ongoing plan to create something special at an unbelievable price. - Due to a restructuring of spa day experiences the Rainforest spa will now open 7 days a week 9am-7pm
- Lifetime members can still book their own classes two weeks in advance, but they will only be allowed to book their guests on the day of the class.
I can confirm as I may have mentioned to a few of you that we are looking to resume the gym reopening 24 hours a day from the Autumn. Still plenty of hoops to jump through but I am hopeful for a positive outcome.
The refurbishment of the sauna & steam rooms is underway and will all be completed over the next 10 days.
